RNA Biology and Comparative Genomics for Medicine

Aim and Scope
The 2025 edition of the Lipari School on Computational Life Sciences will focus on RNA Biology and Comparative Genomics, highlighting their medical applications. The program will explore advanced methodologies such as structural and mRNA vaccinology, RNA-based therapeutic approaches, computational techniques for RNA structure and function, and comparative genomics to uncover evolutionary patterns and advance personalized medicine. Special seminars will cover key topics, including angiogenesis in cancer, disease trajectories, chromatin activity, and transcriptional regulation in oncology, offering participants a comprehensive perspective on the latest developments in computational life sciences.

Travel and accommodation
The conference room (located at Hotel Giardino sul Mare, Via Maddalena, Lipari) is air-conditioned and equipped with all conference materials. In addition, special areas are reserved for students for the afternoon coursework and study. The island of Lipari can be easily reached by ferry or hydrofoil from Milazzo, Palermo, Naples, Messina, and Reggio Calabria (50 minutes from Milazzo).
Registration
Two kinds of participants are welcome.
Students: Participants expected to do afternoon coursework and take a final exam. The course will consist of 24 hours of teaching. Upon successful completion of the final exam, participants will earn the equivalent of 6 ECTS credits applicable to any Ph.D. program. Grades will be assigned according to the ECTS grading scale.
The final exam includes:
- A student presentation: a 3-minute talk on the student’s research project, scheduled during the course.
- A written test: conducted on the last day of the course.
In addition:
- Selected student presentations will be invited to deliver a 15-minute talk followed by a 5-minute Q&A session at the conference.
- To be considered for selection, students must submit a 1-page abstract describing their proposed talk no later than June 23rd, 2025.
- Selected presentations will be announced on June 30th, 2025.
- Certificates of merit will be awarded to all selected presentations and to the best three short talks.
- The best three short talks will be selected by the course instructors and conference attendees and announced at the end of the course.
Auditors: participants not interested in taking the final exam.
The registration fee is 650 €. It covers the course material, bus + hydrofoil Catania airport-Lipari-Catania airport, social events, and coffee breaks. Late registration is 750 €.
Early registration applications can be submitted up to June 20th, 2025. Late registrations will be accepted up to June 30th, 2025.
Applicants must include an updated link to an official website and a cell phone number in case of an emergency. In case of cancellation after fee payments, a 30% penalty will be applied. Regarding credit card payments, processing fees cannot be reimbursed. Payment must be received as soon as possible, no later than June 30th, 2025. Only wire transfers or credit card payments can be accepted.
